As of this morning's update my Google Wallet is now linked directly to my VISA cards... haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Any success stories out there?

I'm using a Nexus S 4G, running Cyanogenmod 9 RC 2

Yes it works .... has been since they updated it the beginning of last week ....

Yup, it works. The only downside is that you won't get reward points/cash back with some cards. NFC payments are awesome, I've been using them since I got my Nexus. It really speeds up the checkout process. Hopefully it catches on to more places.

On a related note, I found out one of my credit cards has an NFC tag in it which explains why every time I put my phone in my pocket or on top of my wallet it beeps. I still can't figure out what the tag in the card is used for.

NFC scares the shit out of me. What if NFC leads to mandatory micro chipping of your hand in order to just buy food? Just saying be careful what you wish for because you are going to get it.

Impressive paranoia you have there :p Japan has had NFC for years and if any country would be the one to embrace micro chipping in a hand, it'd be the Japanese. Jumping from a device that has a NFC chip in it, to a micro chip embedded in the body, is a large logical jump and you know it.

Which credit card issuer does that card fall under? Amex/Visa/MC? Most of the major ones have tried to roll out with their own NFC payment system with little success, so that's probably what the chip is in there for...

Honestly can't wait to give it a go but I'm not sure how much I'd actually put it to use. Hopefully, this will mean a larger adoption of the technology.

NFC has a lot of uses outside of payments. There's a thread on XDA with NFC ideas and some of the guys have awesome uses for them. Things like putting tags in audio docs so that the phone automatically turns on a specified radio program, sets volumes, etc. I can see more use for NFC in other areas than I can for mobile payments.

Visa debit card. It has an NFC logo on the back of the card.
