Google has just revealed its custom built Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), an ASIC specifically to be used for machine learning. Apparently this project has been in the works for some time now. The search giant says that, even though it is just now taking the wraps off this project today, it has been using TPUs for over a year now.

Our goal is to lead the industry on machine learning and make that innovation available to our customers. Building TPUs into our infrastructure stack will allow us to bring the power of Google to developers across software like TensorFlow and Cloud Machine Learning with advanced acceleration capabilities. Machine Learning is transforming how developers build intelligent applications that benefit customers and consumers, and we're excited to see the possibilities come to life.

Starting to look familiar?

They've already gotten to Steve guys.

Notice he didn't say this would lead to robots KILLING US ALL!!!

reading this article, i remembered Nvidia's event about Tesla P100, how Nvidia saw the future in deep learning, google didnt just turn out to be a loss of a Huge customer, but a birth of a giant competitor pooping all over Nvidia's plan, if this chip is 7 years ahead of what's available, nvidia is probably pissed right now.

Finally, an upgrade from the Nvidia GTX 1080. That thing was starting to look slow, know what I mean?
