Google+ Is Slowly Being Killed

This is one of the main reason why everyone hates and avoids G+. Users do not want all of their accounts, information, and datamining to be unified and associated with their real name.

That's one reason/way in which I consider it more mature, and why it's working well for businesses and professional people. Trouble is most folks apparently aren't interested in being real and mature online.

No, the trouble is that people do not want their personal life, professional life, and online life linked and cross-referenced. Not only is it a privacy violation of the highest order but it is also massive job/employment liability.

"businesses and professional people"? Why would you want your current or future employer stalking you and profiling your personal life? This is the worst idea ever; good luck with that.

It's been working pretty well for lots of folks. Look at Linkedin, it's entire reason for being is to get current and future employers to stalk you. I've found it sufficient to be aware of what is out there and plan/set accordingly. I established a better relationship with my FedEx rep via G+ and secured considerably better rates and service for the business I work for as an example, which wouldn't have worked if I'd been "mYsTiKA!!11L" or some anonymous such. It's not a myspace world anymore, it's Linkdin and real-name emails and real and online life blended one into the other. Least in the circles I move in. To each their own and all that but I can say it's worked quite well for me. If for some reason I wanted to have a clandestine online identity to make jerky forum/youtube post or follow pornstars on facebook or something, it's as simple as making another email, another ID, etc, etc. Even with what I have now you'd have to be on my approved list to see anything I don't want you to see anyway, I'm sympathetic to anyone not able to understand the security settings on the various social hubs, but this is becoming an important life skill and it's not going away. Plus, you can opt out, you don't have to be online, you don't have to use FB, etc, etc. You still have an SSN that is all over the place by the time you are middle aged if you live like normal people, your information is still available in 20 other ways the same as it's been for ages. If anything online data is the easiest thing to control. Again I totally support folks having the option of not doing things this way, and if Google or whoever bet wrong and the majority don't then that's fine too. But it's worked out well enough for me, and more than a few others, so the system is not complete junk. It's an engineer or technicians solution, and I am if nothing else an engineer and technician, so it works for me.

The only thing I use it for are my game apps that save my progress. I dont think Google+ was ever a thing so no big deal.

Because one favors one social network over another isn't indicative of maturity level. If anything, you're blanketing people into these general statements and judging them.

The only social networks I would even participate in these days is twitter. I don't care much for Facebook, g+ or the like anymore.

I'm only human, sometimes I blanket and/or stereotype. But I don't do it just out of the blue and for the hell of it. I'm open to being wrong or being disagreed with.

I think it's become fashionable to, at least in public, dislike FB or such. For the intellectual or aspiring types anyway. And that isn't directed at you either it's just something I was thinking about relating to the relative failure of G+ and it's timing having something to do with it. I like FB(at least in principle), can't find a use for Twitter still, and like G+ though it's almost exclusively work related stuff now. It's been a great way to keep up with my people that are at this point in life strung all over the world, and while it cheapens the contact and interaction relative to a real letter or visit or even e-mail, the frequency of the content has made up for it to me.
We keep a separate page for FB and G+ at work as well and do a pretty decent trade through them, they are invaluable for keeping customers involved and attracting their attention when something interesting comes along, especially those overseas.

All fair points.

The FB account I have is primarily just so people have a way to contact me. I'll scan some groups I'm signed up to and all that. But I don't get involved with timelines and posting and all that.

Social media definitely has its benefits all around. Everyone will have their preferences.

If only this applied to the new version of google fucking maps.
