• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Those fairly random numbers and letters are your SID. You should be updating that info in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google hive.

If you want I could probably put together a custom install that would prompt the user for team and username.

I am tired as hell, so I won't get it done tonight, but I will post it as soon as I can. Probably tomorrow after Noon EST.

I am off to sleep, I changed the first post to be more complete

I like how it has steps 4 thru 9 and then A thru K and then 14 thru 16.

I think there may be problems with the google client mixing with other teams - it may be a problem with respect to getting the right cores. I did a quick search on the folding forums but didn't find anything, so maybe I'm just remembering wrong. I'll look again after lunch.

edit: they say you can't change teams :( Some people suggest your solution on the google forum (here) but I haven't seen any success reports with that.

Google “Hive” and “Borg”……………

It all has a very ominous ring to it no? ;)

I know I said noon today. I am such a slacker. I am working on it right now though. Sorry for the delay. :(

Here it is. Finally!
http://www.1999gt.com/downloads/SetupGoogleFolding.exe

I didn't put in the installer that you should probably close IE before moving on, but you all get the idea. :)

I tested the hell out of this thing on XP and it worked great (I didn't test on the other OSes, it should work though). I was never able to get it to bork my settings even after several reboots / starting and stopping the compute / Change Processor settings / etc. If it does happen, under the Start Menu, there is a Program Group called Google Folding @ Home, use the Restore Original Settings link in there to put it back to team 33 and your username, but like I said, everything worked fine for me.

Right now, team 33 is hardcoded into the installer, but if you know other people that want it, I can modify the installer to prompt for a team number, reply here or PM me if that is the case.

Requirements are the following:
Google Toolbar -- (I check for this, the install dies if you don't have it)
Admin privileges -- (Same story)
Windows Installer 2.0 or greater -- (Same story, if you are on Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP3 or greater, you have Windows Installer 2.0 or greater, otherwise, you can download it from MS.)

Win9X guys, it may work, I am not totally ruling it out, but I am not going to test it on Win9X and chances are any queries about 9X, my response will be upgrade your OS. :p

I don't understand... why would you ever want to change the team number to ANYTHING but 33??? I only know of one team... and that's Team 33.... :p

Good work with the installer... might have to give it a try at home this weekend....

Keep on Folding!!

You sound like piro. "sorry guys, it's taken me almost 24 hours to finish writing and extensively testing a program..."

Awesome job, sounds like a good thing!

Sorry, but I have to say this is a very bad idea and I strongly advise against it.

First, Google clients only do Tinker WUs and the cores for the WUs are downloaded from a different site. As unhappy_mage pointed out when you change the team number to anything other than 446 the client will get WUs it won't be able to download the proper cores to process.

A bigger problem is that this is a violation of the EULA. If you use your own user name don't be surprised when your stats get zeroed out. It also gives [H] team 33 a bad name.

Please read this post by Vijay and the other thread there is a link to in this thread.

It was never my intention to *trick* anyone in to installing this. I have read the Google Labs terms of use and I am in no violation there. If people fear they are at risk from the folding community, I will remove the install, but the situatiuon described in the other thread is very different from what I am trying to accomplish.

All I was trying to do was install this on a few win98 boxes on my moms home network, I installed its as a service on her windows 2000 box, she wants me to install it on her win98 box as a service . So if this is wrong, I am sorry, I will lock this thread
