Google Engineer releases DNS server benchmark

that was cool. i've been running google dns, but it turns out it wasn't the fastest for me. in fact it was 59% slower.

Does anyone know how to switch DNS servers? I'm on a comcast connection for internet... I'm a newb...

I would check this out as well -- Steve (flame shield up) has been working on this for a good bit of 2009.

I too found that Google wasn't the fastest for me with this app. Will try the one posted above...

OpenDNS is best for me under both apps after my local DNS (not ISP) - namely helped by 2ms cacheing

MTXR, you change the DNS settings in the router then, not your computer. I personally prefer and use Tomato, not DD-WRT, but look for your DNS settings and change them to whatever DNS settings you're told. I personally went from Comcast in NJ to OpenDNS, haven't noticed a speed difference, mainly did it for the security.

Edit: Found something to help illustrate my point:

Now where it says static DNS 1, enter 208.67.222.222

Where it says static DNS 2, enter 208.67.220.220

Leave the third as 0.0.0.0

Reboot your modem, router and computer, then test your settings.

This is for OpenDNS, whatever service you use will have other values. Of course, you have to create an account with whatever service you're going to use as well.

Thanks for the help It's my first time with third party firmware. I recently purchased a buffalo whr-G54. I'll take a look at tomato.

I have been using OpenDns for years, whitout any problems. This is telling me that OpenDns keeps timing out and can not even test it. That I should use a sprintDns out of Chicago...

My local DNS game back as the fastest....however it uses opendns.

I saw this a few weeks back and finally did it today.
