In any case a 3rd party may get access to your computer you really should have WDE. Truecrypt is free and it works great, I see no real world noticeable performance hits using a OCZ Vertex SSD. Yes even without being able to utilize trim :Z0MG:. No I don't use it on my desktop powerhouse at home, but I sure as hell use it on my laptop I take to school everyday where I could just so happen to get it stolen at any time.
My guess is that the minority use OS X. My guess is they run a large Windows domain. My guess is by nuking Windows they'll generate enough variety to serve whatever purpose they're trying to serve.If that were true, they would also be "ditching" OS X. They are not. At Google? Doubtful. OS X has a pretty strong showing there. I doubt they even have a Windows domain at all.

Just saying that encryption isn't a preventative to attacks on Windows, only a preventative to people who might steal your physical computer and want your data.
