you should download some of the Excel spreadsheets the nationalgrid site provides for a day-by-day load.

yup.. the loads are pretty crazy. In the summer when I get into work, I watch it climb by the hour. Just in my area, it will be around 7000MWe .. then when it gets warmer in the day it will go up to 9000MWe .. then when the temp outside peaks, it can get as high as 12000MWe.
