Does anyone (besides pirate site operators) really care about this?

The decision, which may have come after pressure from the entertainment industry, is a peculiar one since the extensions are no more infringing than Google’s own search bar. “This is really a sad day for web freedom as Google has now taken the stance of guilty until proven innocent,” a disappointed site operator comments.

Dammit. That's one more barrier between me and my favorite Linux distro!

What a crock. The TorLock guy has a good point. May as well start making certain protocols illegal

It's their product, their store, they can do what they want. Sure, it sucks for those wanting the revenue for their site. But, you can still visit the web site. Now, if Google were to block it at the browser level, I'd be upset and moving to a different browser. They are a company that provides a browser (and search engine and a lot more lately). They aren't providing the content, they are delivering it. As long as it stays that way, I'll be fine.

Google Bans Torrent Search Extensions For Chrome. What % is of Chromes user base uses these? 25%, 50%, 75%? I predict a drop in Chrome usage and a gain in Firefox. :D

That's basically my view. If they want to distance themselves from piracy, that's up to them.
exactly, it's not like you're unable to use such extensions if you download them outside of the store. It's just now they wont have any official affiliation.
There's something newer than torrents?
No but there are things that aren't targeted at the user level, file hosting services, that wont require a p2p connection where planted or sat by tracking companies, ie minimize prosecution. And in the end pretty sure avoiding personal cost is what piracy is about.

people still use torrents?

Unless you can think of another peer-to-peer transfer protocol that works well with delivering large files and resuming them whenever you want, that'll be great. If not, torrent will be here for a good while.

Dont we loose all 3rd party plugins jan1st and have to use the wall'd garden? Wonder when we wont be able to side load apps in android, we all ready cant run our own drivers.

I guess Google does like torrents! They are doing these guys a favor by not putting a freaking large ass target on their back.

One thing to show up in search engine results. But putting a welcome mat with a specific app says come after us, we are doing something that's probably illegal, honest!
