Good wireless adapter for desktop?

I think the USB adapters are fine for laptops, road warriers, etc..but for fulltime use on a desktop, I'd go with a PCI version, or a larger external USB unit...simply for more signal strength.
 
By far using linksys srx adapters/routers would be much better. But for cost efficent, a cheaper pci adapter is fine.
 
The antenna looks like something out of sci-fi or something :)

I am leaning towards this one (is the other one really worth it?). So, I'm just wondering how much real-life difference would I notice with say a 5 Mb connection compared with the wireless adapter I just posted? It would really be nice to just have to use a wireless adapter (btw the USB ports would only be 1.1 not 2.0 so would I notice a difference in performance?) instead of opening the case (which looks like a mutha to open) and putting in the new card.
 
Well it will really only matter if you have a srx router, if not than just get the regular 54mbps one. Either or will work.
