Hello,

Can some chime in and list some good point and click style adventure games that work on Windows 98?

I have a few (and craving more!):
Syberia (pretty good. Some frustrating gameplay elements)
Sanitarium (best adventure game I've played, but this is my favorite setting in the world anyway)
The Neverhood (super!!)
Grim Fandango (meh, don't really like it. And keyboard navigation is such a pain)
Safecracker (excellent puzzles, not so much an adventure game though)

P.S anyone know of a resource you can use to find more? I'm trying to use http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?...lx_type=all&sortdir=desc&official=all&page=10 but many titles from that era are not rated or the reviewer is simply stupid (4.9 for Neverhood... I stopped looking after that).

Maybe something that sorts by user ratings?

The two Phantasmagoria games were good...or at least they seemed like it back in the mid 90's.

I remember playing the demo for the first one, it was okay, I also remember they got shredded in some reviews I read, both of them, forgot which publications might've been PC gamer.

IIRC, the majority liked the first one more than the second. It's been a long time since I played either one, so I'm not sure if I would still enjoy either of them.

Monkey Island series. You can't get anything better than than
'nuff said

There was Post Mortem, Fahrenheit, Black Dahlia, Runaway, Siberia

Monkey Island series
Sam and Max
Grim Fandango
Full throttle
Day of the tentacle
Discworld

You wont find puzzle adventure games of this quality today, most of them were dos based games which should run OK on win98 especially if you load them through the command line.

Drawn: Painted Tower
Drawn: Dark Flight

I enjoyed both of these, they're more of the puzzle adventure type games.

Already mentioned but (in order):
Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3
The Dig
Blade Runner
Gabriel Knight 2 (better then 3 IMHO)
Full Throttle

And Sanitarium was awesome BTW. I loaned it to someone though and never got it back :(

The record will be broken for Monkey Island 1-3, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Sam and Max for good reason: they're all amazing.

Because there are other games that might not be compatible with 98, which could bring greater enjoyment?

Seeing this game mentions always makes me smile. Back when this game came out there was this girl my friends knew. They caught her picking her nose once so they nicknamed her The Dig.

Does anyone know if it's possible to play 11th Hour on a modern rig?

Why do you like Monkey Island series so much?

The puzzles were so illogical!

*SPOILER*

For example in the second one I believe, to get something from a paper stack in the hut, you had to get a bloodhound dog up there. But instead of luring him there with some food or something logical, you pick this dog up that is at least twice the size of Guybrush and stuff him in your coat pocket, then climb the ladder and release him.... I spend like two days going around town and whatnot seeing if I missed something and finally gave up and looked it up online. I couldn't believe it so I tried and sure enough that is the solution. After that I stopped playing the game and the rest of the series. There were plenty of these stupid puzzles earlier too

They were ridiculous, that's what was so great about it. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it like the rest of us, but that was the whole point.

Like in Space Quest III, when you picked up a ladder and you got a message saying something to the effect of, "You jam the ladder into your pocket. Ouch!" :D I still play SQIII every once in awhile. It's a good way to kill half an hour. :)

This. NFS II is one I could never get to work properly on any OS newer than WinMe (I can get it to run on XP/Vista/7 but there's some major issues with the sound; Windows x64 anything, forget it).

Why dis MI2? If i'm not mistaken in a LOT of famous RPGs you seem to be able to carry an ungodly amount of stuff. ;)

Like other people stated:

Full Throttle, The Dig, Grim Fandango.

I'd also add The Last Express. This is a superb adventure game most people overlook.
