Could you guys please suggest a few games which are great split screen or "local" multiplayer games on the same console?

I am heading to a place where I will have to entertain 6 to 28 people for a couple three nights using a single Wii with only two controllers.

I thought to come up with some sort of game where it's easy to just do elimination matches so that if there are really 28 folks it would be easy to have 14 pairs, each plays one game (or best of 3) and the winner plays vs. the winner of a different pair, etc, till we get down to a champion for the night. Added fun factor would be placing bets on the winners of matches, etc.

I'll have the Wii, a projector, some speakers (no subwoofer) and the two normal controls. I do have Wii Sports (obviously), and I do have some party (smooth moves?) game I bought when I bought the Wii, then I looked at it once, it seemed to suck, and I never touched it again. IIRC Smooth Moves was players taking turns, I think that will definitely be too boring with one person playing and a couple dozen just sitting there.

The bottom line though is that whatever game is picked, it's absolutely necessary that it will work without having to spend a couple hours to set up avatars for all the players. It just needs to work out of the box with minimal lead time. I am thinking to pick up Punch-Out, or maybe something else, I just don't know, essentially zero Wii experience here.

Above all the games ought to be fun in a setting like mine, whether the gfx are great is secondary just as long as folks are entertained cheering each other on etc.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Smooth moves is awesome. You pass the controller around, and it's tons of fun.

Tiger woods 10 is a good choice, get it with the wii motion plus bundles and play some frisbee golf.

Mario kart is clearly a must-have. Maybe pick up 2 more controllers also, make it really worthwhile.

I knew that we all have a Wii and don't play it, but I did expect a couple more replies. There have to be folks out there who actually play with multiple people.

Do you know about the Boom Blox series? There's games where you either take turns with the remote or you can play multiple people at a time and it's very easy to pickup and learn, since some of the premise lies in JENGA mechanics.

And it's fun.

If you like golf, Tiger woods 2010 is a great Wii game. My brother and I play a round during lunch all the time heh... Also Mario kart Wii was mentioned, and is lots of fun with friends.. sometimes things get pretty rough and physical and controllers start getting knocked out of your hands and whatnot.. Although that just could be my friends.. :p

Apparently tiger woods is even better with the motion plus attachment, but I don't have that, and enjoy the game just as well.. Wii sports 2 or redux or whatever its called is supposed to be pretty cool.. and since Wii sports is still a popular game to play with friends, it should be the next game to take its place.

Super Smash Bros Brawl is a lot of fun when you play with groups of people. It is a pretty each fighter that anybody can pick up and play and have fun.

I dunno about the Golf, but remember the guy only has 2 Wiimotes so Super Smash Brawl and Mario Kart will only be 2 at a time, which may take awhile considering the large audience the OP is entertaining.

You could always resort to bowling. Everyone loves bowling.

How about Wii sports tennis 3 or 5 game match, its fast really easy so long as the screen is big enough (and as you have a projector it should be), and very easy to pick up. Also would give you a lot of laughs as there would be some very wild gestures.

Do you have any gamecube controllers you can borrow?

Bomberman blast from Wiiware is crazy... Up to 8 people if you have 4 wii controllers and 4 gamecube controllers. Bomberman is pretty easy to pickup and play as well.

Otherwise, other stuff we play: Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Wii Sports, Wii Play... depends on how "casual" the crowd is...

some of my favorite Wii party games.. Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Bomber Man, Tiger Woods Golf, Tertris Party
