Need more info such as:

1) Typical viewing distance,

2) Main uses: TV watching mostly? console gaming? PC gaming? PC monitor?

3) 1080P? Or is 720P ok if it'll get you a bigger size?

There are tons of 42" 720P plasma deals floating around for less than $500, but otherwise if you're in research mode you should check out the AVS forums: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=9

1. I'm not sure the viewing distance. 11feet?

2. main uses tv and console gamming

3. looking for 1080p

hmmm that forum says no price talk...

11ft distance with a 1080P res, you looking at a 40-42" size minimum. It will be hard to find a 40-42" 1080p display for $500 new. Anyways... here's a 37" 1080P display from Toshiba for $499.99

Hehe, I know most of you won't agree with this but, my friend and his wife bought the Dynex 42" from Best Buy for $600 last year. So far so good, it hasn't crapped out on them yet. It's $499.99 now on sale

BestBuy has three different 1080P Dynex TV's for $500. I forget if it was Dynex or Insignia, or both, but sometimes BestBuy store brand TV's are rebrands from other better know manufacturers. That 37" Toshiba looks nice.

40" DX-40L150A11 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex&#...+/+60Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/9693695.p?id=1218150610512

Walmart 40" Proscan 40LD45Q $430: http://www.walmart.com/ip/ProScan-40-40LD45Q/13348087

Now it's up to the OP to search those model numbers to see which is the better TV, you could start by doing a forum search at the AVS forums ;)

I wouldn't trust the BestBuy reviews too much, they're only marginally better than walmart reviews imho ............. "My TV looks great!!!", bleh.

You can also try searching google and ebay for some BestBuy coupons. I think the post office still has the free "mover's pack" which should have a 10% BestBuy coupon inside.

I dunno about the Vizios man.My friend bought a Vizio and had it for a few months, then a blue line came up horizontally on the bottom of the screen. Its not that bad but, you can see it. Also, my coworker mom has a Vizio lcd/tv also. It crapped out in a year? Something like that.

I would suggest the Sony Bravia KDL32EX400.

It's a little bit over the $500 budget, but you could have gotten it a week ago from TigerDirect for $467 by using Bing Cashback. I've read nothing but positive things about that set.

There's also the Panny TC-L32U22. And Newegg has a surprisingly great return policy on televisions (return within 90 days for refund or replacement).

You linked LCD's, not plasmas. Are you willing to go with a 720P plasma ? (1366x768 native resolution) because you can easily afford a good 42" model.

plasma or lcd doesn't matter much to me. Was looking for 1080p though.
