Anyone else gettin a warm fuzzy feelin inside?

There are rumors out there, and so far the rumors are pretty positive concerning the performance of both next gen parts from NVIDIA and ATI.

Anyone gettin the feelin that these next two enthusiast level cards are gonna bring us some kick ass performance? Kinda like the shocker that was the 9700Pro?

I hope it isn't just hype and that they both really do deliver in games, cause if FarCry is any indication of future games we are gonna need some damned powerful cards!

I think it is an increadibly exciting time we are living in.

haha, i hear ya, hard drive techonlogy really needs an upgrade, the WD Raptors are a start, but the 73gig version is still very pricey, it needs to come way down in price, and 15,000rpm scsi drives need to come down in price a lot too, the SATA interface should pick up when PCI-E mobo's are released, i'd like to see that progress as well

I would like to see umm what do u call it static hds?? using mem chips isntead of platters :) nothing like a hd writing at 2000mb/s :D but yea 2 36gig Raptors are cheaper then 1 73gig :) which imo is alot better since you can raid them

yea i got an 80gig SATA 2100 drive ;)

Solid state hard drives are around at extravagant prices. I don't expect them to ever pass magnetic storage as the main medium anytime soon because they really aren't very efficient. Probably some new tech will crop up instead.

Anyway, the graphics wars are really really heating up this time, the performance numbers will probably be quite a treat :)

i like idea of the holographic storage research

some kind of solid state storage device is what is really needed for sure, that is the future, though unless prices come down or a new technology is developed that is cheaper it may be a while

ok, how did this thread turn into a hard drive discussion :p

ok back on topic, i think the parhelia 2 will lay the smack down on the r420 and the nv40.:p

Unless you know something we don't I think cpu's are making great strides but video cards seem to only offer minimal performance upgrades.

I'm warm and fuzzy but I just wish someone could tell me when these new cards will actually be available. I understand that announcements are coming mid April, but I would really like to know when they will hit the shelves, so to speak. That's the part that's killing me.

I'm getting very impatient. I almost bought an 9800XT this weekend just because I was holding one and my "Buy Harware Now" buzz was going so strong. It didn't help that my best friend was right there going "go ahead phil, you know you want to". But alas, my higher brain function kicked in and I put that sinful temptress back on the shelf.

WHEN BRENT, WHEN? Ok, I'm done whining now, thanks. ;)

oh by the way, my father is an HTPC fanatic....

...in the attempt to make a 0dB machine, he put his OS on a 2gb flash card. the thigns run slow as hell just FYI. So solid state storage != fast as some of you seem to think.

solid state hd don't use typical compact flash memory. this company's products claims up to 133MB/sec burst and 110MB sustained transfer rates, and storage sizes up to 155GB. However they cost tens of thousands of dollars per gig.

HA! Pocket change

Anyway, I am feeling very warm and fuzzy inside. It has been hard skipping the $200 9800pro.
I currently have a GF4 Ti4200...Can't wait

I admire those that were able to wait for the next gen cards, but I have a feeling some may decide on a 9800/5900 when they see how high the next gen cards are priced at. And if the the 9700 pro's are any indication, prices will stay high for a long, long time. I hope I'm wrong though... here's to $200 NV40/R420's!

If there is a 50% performance gain, i'm going to be upset, cause I'll be stuck with a 9800 pro until I can get money:(

Hmmm, I always thought Solid State hds would be alot faster then that, speciallly for that price range but since the SEEK time is sooo much less I guess thats one bonus :) I'm sure we'll see something big in the near future, i mean I remember having a 120mb hd and that was HUGE i mean sheet i had windows 95 and like 10 games on it ;) including sim city!
