Good time for 4870 CF?

Been looking around some e-stores and it looks like they're winding down stock on the 1 GB 4870 Radeons. Would now be a good time to pick up a second card to crossfire with my old 4870, or should I just wait for the 6xxx series cards?
 
What resolution do you play at? What games? Also it really depends on the price...$140 might be a good price at e-tailers for a 4870 1GB but you can easily find them here on the forums for $100 or less sometimes!

I would get a used card. I had a 4870x2 for a while and it was great. Played everything I threw at it @ 1920x1200 with ease.
 
If you're going to look for a used card, keep an eye out for other potential crossfire candidates. You can crossfire a 4870 with a 4890. You can also crossfire your 4870 with a 4870x2 for triple crossfire. Both are official supported crossfire configurations.
 
I still use my 4870's in crossfire on one of my machines and does fine. I have seen new ones for around 100 on newegg but heck hit ebay and try and get a 4870x2 for some triple crossfire fun.
 
Ah yes. I play a fairly wide range of games at 1900x1080. Crysis, Guild Wars, Mass Effect 2, and others.
 
Considering what the last few drivers have been doing to a lot of Crossfire users, I'd probably skip the second 4870 and get a single 58xx or 68xx. And then sell your 4870.

Kinda what I was thinking. I have a 4870x2 and am still using the 10.3 drivers due to problems with anything newer. The card is great, they just can't pull off the drivers. :(
 
The thing is though, the Crossfire application profiles are completely separate from the drivers now, making the drivers themselves much less relevant for crossfire users. Even if you stick with 10.3 or 10.5a or w/e you can still install the 10.7 or 10.8 crossfire application profiles which IMO is 80% the benefit of updating the drivers anyway.
 
Crossfire application profiles won't fix the second core being stuck at 2D speeds because the drivers are broken. And they can't fix it and keep it fixed. This has been an issue with about half of the drivers in the last year and a half. And at least the last 3. I will never buy a dual card again. At least not from ATi.
