Good temperature for my processor?

Hi,
I was wondering what would be a good temperature for my processor. My current system is:

Intel D865PERL Motheboard
Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz 800 FSB Processor
Geforce 6800 GT
Heatsink: Thermaltake spark 7+
Antec True Blue 480 Watt Power Supply

I just upgraded from a really crappy computer and dont really kno what temperature my system is running at. On the Intel Desktop Control center it reads 62 during gaming and the fan is running at 5123 RPM's. Is this Bad? How can I get the CPU temperature to decrease? Is the Thermaltake Spark 7+ anygood? Thank You.

anything under 60 is good...so that's a bit high..

maybe try some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste? and reseating the hsf..might not be making good contact

I also would guess that your HSF installation could use improvement.

Also... Is it a Northwood or a Prescott?

You could do better with a Prescott, but that temp is quite normal. That's way hot for a Northwood at stock speed though.

I would even try to stay no greater than 50 if possible...then again I'm on Northwood and Prescotts are ovens, so that would probably be normal for Prescotts then! Using premium compound really does make a difference.

I reinstalled the heatsink and applied more compound, its at 40 at 6000rpm, at quiet mode (1300rpm) it runs at 47-50, huge difference. Dont know what I did difference but it worked! Does extra case fans also help with CPU cooling?

I run 38 CPU idle 22 MB idle with a P4 3.0E

It gets up to 44 CPU running rthdribl.exe when my video card temps go up to 72... havent tried on any really HARD cpu apps though.

to a certain extent, unless you have a shroud for you HSF. Most HSF draw air from inside the case, so a cooler ambient temperature would help your temps.
