Hello Everyone,

I am planning on Building a system , but borrowing a bunch of things from my current machine. Could you please tell me what will fit , what might fit better with something for max perform?

That is what I have so far , but need the motherboard and some other stuff prob. (ethernet, easy stuff.

current system will use : cd / dvd rom / burner.
sound card
floppy.





Edit: The main concern I have is being able to Overclock the P4 to 4ghz.

Maybe someone can help me find a motherboard to fit this processor well. =] Thnx.

Yes, but for that money why not go AMD socket 939??? Or get a Northwood and OC it....

yea go with a64 for that price...and your board(or board that you will buy) can support DDR2 memory right? cus that is DDR2...not DDR1 like most board support...it has alot more pins too...204 instead of the 184 of DDR1
 
out of pure bias i can't recomend an intel system.


there is a price performance factor involved but the truth is on an AMD vs INtel thing unless it involves complications you wouldn't find in an ATX box it might be worth it to live with the performance difference than to see the price difference in your pocket.


get kingston over whatever that is you have over here

the only thing i would do, is get an athlon 64 over the prescott and spend the money you saved on a faster video card.


normally i would recomend faster or more ram but i don't think there is better ram than 533 mhz.
 
the intel 915 chipsets would be good for the ddr2 and preshot

i am using the i915P mobo...nice
supports ddr2
 
so wait...digital...does your board support DDR2 or DDR1...in your first post you showed us some DDR2 ram...in the second post (^^) its DDR1...which is it that your board supports?
 
Want to have a board that can support a 478 and possibly ddr2 in the future. idK for complete sure.
