my onboard sound sucks. the mic stopped working, and sound it all distorted now. I don't know why. The mic works on other computers, so I know the onboard sound. I know if i get a soundcard the problems will be fixed, so what is a decent one?
I'm running windows XP.
 
First off... use the search function.

Second... what else do you want it to do.

Music mostly, Movies mostly, Games mostly?
 
games mostly. counter-strike and other games like that sound is very important. you need to tell if someone is creeping up behind and whatnot.
 
Well it's all up to what your willing to spend.

If you want more games geared stuff just go with an audigy series. If you don't wanna spend a lot, a simple SB Live 5.1 would do ok, or you could splurge for an Audigy 2. There are different level Audigy 2's but I don't know the particulars of each.

Or you could get a Chaintech card for around $35 or so. But I may not be the one to ask for details.
