good solution for ipod playback?

my mom just got her first ipod and wants a dock/speaker system to play it in. I looked at the dock/speaker combos and i think i can do much better.

I figure i can buy a standalone dock (w/o speakers) that can charge the ipod +output to rca+take IR commands for changing tracks/adjusting volume.

from there i figure i can output to some swan m10s or something.

anyone have any ideas on such a dock?

I don't know of any docks like that, actually. I'd just buy her these myself, but they might be beyond your budget.
