I have a P4 2.6 ghz chip from an old comp and I want to build a server (aka just a machine that will house a bunch of hard drives and that's all it needs to do, is store data and be able to be accessed across the network), I'm going to pickup some kind of PCI SATA controller that'll do some RAID 5.

Anyone know of any good socket 478 boards?

I'm in the same situation as well... I have a P4 2.8 Ghz just sitting around and am also looking for a good socket 478 board. The only one that I've seen at my local retailer is made by ASRock. The model is P4I65G and it's selling for $60... At that price, I'm going to go ahead and pick it up just so I can get my second system up and running.

BTW, I was told that ASRock boards are made by ASUS. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Please let me know...
 
asrock is a divison of asus..generally they are very good boards..many happy customers in these forums ....Id buy another one in a heartbeat if the situation arose.
 
Try and find a used P4P800SE or the like on ebay. One of the best 478 boards I have ever used.
 
The Asus P4P800/P4C800 series are among the best, but are still pricey. I just sold a P4P800-E Deluxe on eBay for $171, lol.

Unfortunately, unless you go used, I think the only s478 boards left in stock are mostly VIA chipset based. If you go used, I'd suggest the Intel 865PE chipset.
