i need a good small video player, i used to have a flash trax xt but it is just too bulky. I loved it as it could play almost any video codec out there, although it hated most every audio codec it wasnt that hard to get it work. It had a cheap chineese interface and becuase of that i was able to do a lot with it i prolly wasnt supposed to do :) i liked the way it showed up as a hard drive and it didnt need software for it or anything!

now im asking is there a smaller video player for around $50 out there that does all this? bigger is better but minimum is definitely 4gb. ill pay extra for more space but i dont want a zune or ipod or anything like that just becuase they are so tightly bound to there software

Sansa Fuze perhaps?

Zunes are great but it requires you to use their software (which I don't really have a problem with..) and you can't just drag and drop.

What kind of screen size are you looking for? Was going to suggest grabbing an older iPAQ or Dell Axim perhaps, as they come with 3.5" screens typically and by using TCPMP they would play pretty much anything out there without much trouble.

SD card slots ensure "unlimited" expansion also...

I recently got this. I can't give you a name coz i've been researching and every page i went to seem to have it under a different brand. If you google and come across anything that looks like this, it's probably the same thing.

The orange box when he plays the video is the player asking if you'd like to skip to the part you were in before if you had quit in the middle. Pretty handy so you don't have to fast forward all the way back to where you left off in a movie when you get interrupted.

Here's a complete feature list.

Take out your credit card and hold it up. That's how big it is. It's just a tad thicker than a pencil. Got the 4GB model for $40.00, there's an 8GB+TVOut version for a little over $50.00.

These MP4 players are pretty cool (Are they really called MP5's now?). My first one was just a plain MP3/MP4 player and the build was crappy, it did last for a year and all it needs is a new battery. I decided on getting a better model tho and ended up with the one above.

Supports: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, ACC, MP4, AVI, DAT, MPG, RM, FLV, MOV, JPG, GIF, BMP, TXT, and maybe some more i can't remember right now. Screen is 3" 400x240.

The memory isn't an issue since we're always near a PC anyway and the PC sees it as a normal thumbdrive so transferring files is not a bother and doesn't need proprietary software.

Between a $230.00 iPod video and this... dunno about you but i'll take this one :p

i dont think they are called mp5's now i think thats just some cheap Chinese thing they do to get dumb Americans to bite on them. anywho it looks pretty solid, does it feel cheap at all?

Solid? Well, it's got a rubber textured front on a metal casing. The circuits look to be on par with desktop PCB's. No loose wiring or heatglue, it's a proper circuitboard.

Also had it on full charge and played some movies, the battery lasted over 4 hours. Not too bad. I'm not sure how long it'll last on just music tho. The Zune's supposed to last 3.5 hours on video and 12 hours on music. Maybe it'll last 14 hours on music?

Here's a local store that has a listing of their MP4's, it's got specs and pictures listed along with each item so it might be a good reference. Most of them are crap, but there are some gems in there.

I'd go for a Sansa, cheaper than the iPod - just as good - compatible with Vista, Rhapsody, Napster etc. Upgradable memory
