I'm looking for something with 160GB or more of space and that is sata2. I'm kindaconfused when it comes to HDD's :(

For games like BF2, would it be noticeable and the loading times be faster with a 16mb cache? Also, if I run raid 0 with these would they preform close or better than 10k HDD's?
 
16MB helps, RAID-0 doesn't. There are some games where RAID-0 might help a little, but the majority of the time it won't have any impact at all, and there are even some situations where running RAID-0 will lengthen load times. No 7200RPM drive(s), RAID-0 or not, are going to match the game loading performance of a 74GB or 150GB Raptor. Games are typically very poorly coded, and unnecessarily seek heavy. Some games will have multiple seeks within files of 64KB or less :rolleyes: Under such conditions, the Raptors' blazing seek performance will carry the day over even the highest density 7200RPM drives, even ones with 16MB cache.

If you're looking to get off fairly cheap, the price of the WD2500KS has fallen to around $100. WD740GDs have fallen to $150, even less if you're willing to pick up a used one (not a bad deal considering they're backed by a five year warranty). WD1500ADFDs have fallen a little, but are still quite pricy at $275+

There are some other pretty zippy drives out there. The Hitachi T7K250 and the 16MB Maxtor drives come to mind.
 
Ok. With 250GB of space I don't think I would need RAID any :) I'm not looking at spending alot on HDD's since I don't have a greta cash flow for my computer and need a new mouse too and wondering is he WD the best for it's worth?
 
The WD2500ks is very nice for the price. Mine doesnt offer a significant boost over my seagate 7200.8 drive when loading bf2, but overall it is faster. It is perceptually faster when doing large writes to my drive or when encoding dvd's. For about $100 its a fantastic deal.
 
I love WD drives....great warranties, great products.

I have the WD2500KS and its a great drive at a nice price right now. Its not as fast as my raptor but it's pretty quick and a lot quieter.
