I haven't had any issues with my current rig (see sig) but I wanted to find out a way to see what my rig is actually consuming to see if I need a bigger PSU.

Most calcs I have found on the web put me under 550w (around 520w), but with little overhead.
 
You can get a Kill-A-Watt for around $30 IIRC; they'll show you how much you're actually drawing at the wall. That's about all I can think of.

If you follow the instructions in the sticky it is not outdated it just requires effort.
