good program for freeing ram or ram optimization

There is no need for such a program. IF you do need extra memory The data will be recycled just as if it was any other file being cached in memory.
 
I use Cachman for a similar use. You can optimise cache settings, icon cache, and other settings that improve performance by a lot. You can also use the recover memory feature, to do just what you wanted.

i used to use cacheman with win98.. but i put it on a cmoptuer i got now that is running XP and i think it made it worse..
we do have plenty of comptuers at work with XP that are 600-750 mhz pIII 128mb of ram, 4-10 gig hard drives.. and they get the job done, just not always quickly...

i would try to turn off un needed services, turn off themes, etc.. you should be able to get decent enough performance out of that computer.. find a guide for tweaking XP.. i used one on a 350mhz pII and it made it run decently..
 
Just don't spend any $$$ on "memory optimization software". Get more ram instead.
BTW, there's some program I heard about that is supposed to clear up memory to make things load faster. Sorry, I forgot the name of this useless POS that I could implement in 5 minutes.. Basically what it does it allocate a bunch of ram, force all the running apps into swap, then exit. Sure an app launches fast after you run it, but anything else that was running gets major lag. Plus it's $30. That's a good chunk of what you need for another 256MB, which would help a *lot* more.
 
just buy some more ram. the ram "optimizers" suck, to put it nicely.
