I have the R300 and it outputs fantastic photos, and the text-only prints are great. Some are put off by the cost of the inkcarts, but I just get the replacements from www.inkgrabber.com.
They print on DVDs/CDs also.

Go with an HP. Get one of the small All-in-Ones that does copy and scan. There are some models that are ~$100 that print pretty damn good photos and the text is crisp. My dad just got the HP PSC 1315. I have a HP PSC 2710 All-in-One but it cost a bit more for the wireless capability.

HP PSC 2410 here. It's one of those SOHO machines, print, scan, copy fax, does dishes, wipes yer ass, all of that stuff. No complaints from me so far but I don't put out that much volume of stuff yet, either.
