Ok, GF wants to play some games together. So I am looking for some multiplayer games, not FPS's though, not really her thing. We have done SC, which she likes but playing against each other gets old and we are looking for something we can do together, we did Portal 2 which she loved, however I don't really know what else is good that she might enjoy, she wants to do an MMO, but I REALLY don't want to get into one, and paying a monthly fee for something like WoW, maybe I am cheap but 15 bucks a month x2? That's a game a month on steam just about, so it is not something I want to do and the free ones are all based heavy on cash shop items to really do just about anything in them.

So, while MMO's are not out for suggestions, I would rather stay away unless it's cheaper monthly or not so heavy CS based. Ideas?

Guild Wars 2 has a big seal of approval from a few ladies I know. It's isn't out yet, but later this month.

Trine 2 is also pretty cool if she likes puzzles.

For something short term, any number of co-op games from Steam come to mind, especially Trine series.

And as far as MMO like game, but without monthly fees.... Diablo 3, and TL2 when it's out.

Yeah, I have heard allot about GW2, never played the first, but there did seem to be allot of hype on it, and it is on my list to look at.

Don't know anything about the Diablo line or Torchlight, I did get us both Trine and Trine 2, work has kept us from playing them, but I hear they are a bit short and easy.

Does she not like any FPS, or just competative deathmatchy types? Because... Serious Sam HD co-op. Fun times, right there.

Also worthy of note is Dungeon Defenders, though I lost interest after the developers' idea of extending the "endgame" was "multiply monster quantity and monster HP by X" ad infinitum. Still a solid 40-60 hours of co-op fun if you are in it for the ride and not the powerlevel to whatever latest difficulty mode is the norm.

Magicka is also a good co-op and versus game, up to 4 players. Very short story mode, though, but still worth it in my opinion.

Oh, and Myth 2. Because, by court order, I always have to mention Myth 2 in any thread about videogames.

Thought I would also ask, how is GW on CS stuff? Is it like some other MMO's where game play changing items are sold in it? If so then it's just a money sink and I will steer clear.

She's not that good at FPS, reaction time etc. Granted I tried starting her off with ARMA II, so that might not have been the best idea. However, it's just not her cup of tea and as such shes not really motivated to spend the time to try and learn it.

Mario Kart Wii.

I am guessing a joke? We are both full time PC gamers and I don't own a single console and have no plans on ever buying one. She is very much into RTS games and things that make you think, such as SC and Portal 2 multi, which we have played through about 6 times now. She likes the idea of a MMO because of allot of things to do and learn etc etc, I don't like the idea of a MMO because they are often massive time sinks and money pits for CS.

Tribes Ascend is really good and free. You could give it a shot, and if she doesn't like it just uninstall it without losing any money.

Orcs Must Die 2 just came out. Although I haven't played the new one yet, the first one was really good and I am hoping this one follows suit with added Co-Op.

If you are looking at MMOs, there are a number of decent games that are or are going free-to-play shortly. SWTOR goes f2p in november, but nearly all SOE games are f2p atm.

Not a joke. I know it was in the PC section, but the Wii has some nice multiplayer games. MK Wii was quite fun with a group of people.

The Last Standalone for $10 is pretty easy to get into, hard to master. Great fun when playing with people who know what they're doing. Retribution itself can be had for less than $10 on Amazon, single player can be done cooperatively with the races of your choosing. Newb friendly on normal mode, impossible on hard mode (unless you've got the patience). 1v1 2v2 3v3 multi, fun but tense.

- trine 2
- dungeon defenders

- dungeons & dragons online (f2p with premium content)
- lotr online (same above, plays like wow)

Tomb Raider Guardian of Light is a good co-op romp and fairly cheap.

A big mmo like Wow would give you the most bang for your buck in terms of variety in co-op. You'll likely spend more than $30 per month trying to find new games to play.

I'd also recommend Guild Wars 2 since there is no monthly fee, also Star Wars the Old Republic is going f2p this fall.

Other options include Diablo 3, Borderlands, Dead Island, Saints Row 3, Dead Rising 2, Left 4 Dead, Payday the Heist.
