I was looking at a Shuttle case on NewEgg, and I think it looks great, but 1) $400 and 2) doesn't appear to support the newest C2D CPUs (if I'm reading the specs right :confused: ).

Anyway, I've been looking around and I can't find any decent looking cases.

To qualify as decent looking, I like having the front ports hidden away somewhere and a smooth look overall. Handles, windows optional.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Adidas, but the ports on the front just make it seem like somebody threw them on there and was too lazy to design a nice cover. I don't use front ports very often, so it's unnecessary and lowers the "sexiness" factor, y'know?

New question, I found another Shuttle case ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856101019 ) that will support the newest C2D CPUs, but it has 2 8x PCI-E slots instead of 1 16x PCI-E slots. I was originally thinking about using one 7950GT ( http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130074 ), but if I get the 2 8x slots, will I see a big drop in performance? Should I go with two cheaper cards (8500GT, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127285 ) and put them in SLi to get over the loss of bus speed?
 
If you like clean, what do you think of the SG03? There is a thread going here on this with reviews & pictures.
 
agreed, sounds like Sugo03 may be what you are looking for.

Unfortunately the Shuttle SD37P2 that you referenced will not support SLI as it is an Intel 975X chipset - it will support ATI crossfire however.

I would suggest buying a Shuttle SD39P2 so that you will have the option of using a PCI sound card with a single slot video card. If you are OK with the onboard audio solution, I would highly recommend going with an 8800GTS 320 dual slot card as they are near silent compared to the single slot cards and significantly more powerful for not much more $$$.

I have tested dual 7900GT's and a 7950GX2 in my Shuttle SN26P SLI Shuttle and they still are not even close to the performance I get from a single 8800GTS.

I can't find any information about this thing's FSB - NewEgg says memory supported is 667/800MHz, so does that mean this case won't support the new 1066MHz C2Ds?

SD39P2 has an Intel 975X chipset and most definitely supports 1066Mhz Bus including the latest Quad core CPU's

Excellent... I think I'll end up getting this one then. Most of the others are nice, but they just don't have the look I'm going for.

The Shuttle's are my favorites too. I've got an SD32G2B.

Shuttle's are like mini Lian-Li cases to me, and they're just like... perfect size for a LAN machine.

You might not realize it, but that 1000W PSU is completely useless; Quad-core + 8800gtx SLI or not.

I agree! My Shuttle SD32G5 has exceeded all of my performance expectations with my latest upgrade :cool:

Swapped it over to the other machine nice.

I couldn't bring myself to open up the side like that so I'm mostly looking into single slot cards. I'm really looking for a solid and quiet system, I don't care about overclocking and all I really want is something with dx10 support that is relatively quiet.

I really want that Gigabyte 8600GT that uses the fanless heatsink but it's hard to come by.

How quiet are those fan-based 8600GT cards?

The quietest single slot card I have found is the 7800GTX with a stock NVIDIA reference cooler as it uses a 4-wire PWM fan controller. I believe the new 8800GTS also use a 4-wire PWM fan controller as well.

My 7800GTX is the stupid idiot BFG new revision with the fan at 100% all the damn time so I'm trying to off it to a friend as the best card I've ever owned and move to like an 8600 or something.

The SG03 is a small case! Just as small by volume as the SG01. Because it is shaped like a mini tower it looks big without a reference object. Take a look at it next to a bottle of beer. It's all aluminum, allows 8800GTX SLI, and any ATX power supply so it's high quality and complete freedom in choice of components.

The SG03 is new (maybe not even available yet). I would like to see a review scrutinize the hard disk placement from all angles. And I would definitely like them to lose that side pod sticking out! That thing has got to go. A small window replacing it there with cooling holes would be my vote like the side of the SG01.

But the Shuttle might be the case for you as well. Just wanted to clear the SG03 up a bit.

That is smaller than it looks, thanks for the picture. I will probably be waiting a little while to start buying parts, so I'll turn them both over in my head for a bit.
 
I personally really don't like the SG03... That stupid side window thing to accomodate the PSU fan just ruins it for me and that weird folding out in the front thing is weird...

I'm a Shuttle lover personally.
 
SiS is a so so in my eyes, dont expect a powerhouse overclocker or something out of it, but i do see them above VIA and not had issues with any SiS systems i have had or worked with.
 
I think you can improve the looks of the SG01 by blocking off the front ports.

Someone with more skill/patience could do a better job ;)

Some mods that would be even better:
1. a VFD in the area of the ports
2. an IR window, with the MCE IR receiver mounted in behind.

see as the majority of Sugo03 buyers will use it with an NT06 heatsink, and therefore have the PSU facing inwards, I would like an option to buy a nice unblemished Sugo 03 sidepanel with no holes in it!
 
i had seen an asian site that used a carton of cigarettes to show the length of a SFF case, and a pack to illustrate the height and width.

they both make for a good frame of reference. sorry, i should have wiped down the EZ482 before snapping that shot.

uhh hullo there SFF gurus! i am currently in a state of distress about what system to get. so i was hoping to get some insight on these sff systems from you masters of the art. i've never been a big fan of barebone systems as they seem to not have the most umph that diy ones can have, but with the lack of good matx core2duo boards out there i'm leaning towards getting a SD39P2. i like the abit fatal1ty f-i90hd board (wanted that with e4300 and 8800gts), but i've had 4 go bad on me just forcing me to give up my dream. which probably also means i just suck at building systems.

i've decided to have a fresh start and hook one of these babies up /w an e6320 or e4400. the thing is that fry's is having a sale on their SD37P2's for $385 ($15 difference and instant gratification are very alluring). The only problem is that the SD39P2 is more robust in it's overclocking options, and i'm somewhat of an oc freak as of late. will the extra options and quadcore support make that big of a difference (i do plan on upgrading to quad in the future, just not sure if it'll be with this setup :D). I'm currently using D9 (teamgroup xtreem's and buffalo firestix ) that don't require too much voltage (2.1v max on these shuttle systems right?) to hit 400fsb/350fsb (those are the limits on the boards as i understand it). might delve into promos sticks that do 3-4-4-5, but yah... i'm getting off topic. is the SD39P2 worth the extra $15 and 3-5 day wait? (considering i dont have a video card at the moment i shouldn't even be stressing the wait).

is the SD39P2 just a pre flashed bios or does it actually use a whole different board?

if i want to use an 8800gts should i buy a thermaltake add on video card psu?

or

$399 SD39P2
