There are only a small portion of programs that actually play Blu Ray that I am aware of. I've used and have had success with Cyberlink.
I have this model myself. It also is a Blu Ray writer (although I haven't used that function myself):

Well, if you want cheap then pick up whatever you can find for an optical drive. (it almost doesn't matter)
For playback there's MakeMKV (free for now) if you're willing to wait ~30 mins to an hour for the movie to rip first.
Haven't used any commercial playback software in a long time myself as i've got a AnyDVD HD license and VLC. (if that fails it gets dropped into the PS3)
