Might anyone suggest a good model of gigabit switch that has:

8 ports
$40-60 budget

Thank you.

edit: meant switch, not router. :(

i thought i saw this one was good in a thread here. I want to get one too but not sure whats a good one myself.

I picked up a 16-port Belkin gigabit switch from CDW last year for $90. Has been operating just fine.

Though if you're looking for a 8-port, I'd say go with a "better" brand probably...I'm still convinced CDW made a pricing mistake on the Belkin. :)

($52.99 after $15.00 Mail-In Rebate) Not to mention I've never had a problem with the 10/100 Netgear metal box switches I've used in the past couple of years.

Yeah, ProSafe series from Netgear are very solid. I got a FS116 10/100 switch and it works nicelly. I even ordered a WG302 AP in the same metal box style from eBay to get along with my switch.

can that be rack mounted? I have a server rack in the basement and thats one thing i would like to be able to do with any gig switch i get too.

I third the netgear. I set up a 24porter in my fathers dental office. Damn this has been ROCK SOLID. I must say netgear makes some excellent wired products. We use the 10/100's in my lab and only one has gone bad in the whole time, and that was because switches and hydrochloric acid don't mix. So I don;t think you can blame it.
