Been a few years since I have had a PC. But i just recently built an I5 750 system. Right now im using the stock cooler. In the near future i would like to do some overclocking on this system. Can anyone recommend a good bang for the buck cooler for me.

I use a Corsair H50 in my rig; it's a dead-simple self-contained water cooling system that needs no maintenance.
 
cost to performance the H50 is not impressive at all...

however the Xiggy s1283 is awesome for the price... it can be found for around $25 to $40, its even better when you upgrade the fan...

it performs within 2c of the best coolers on the market for less than half the cost
 
I've got a Xigmatek Thor's Hammer on my i5 750, I'm not sure I'd recommend it though. For one I needed to buy an adapter for 1156 and for two it was annoying to install (compared to my old Noctua cooler which was alot easier). After installing it I wasn't sure if it had seated properly due to the shear amount of wiggling and bumping I had to do to get it into place.

But it keeps it cool, 65-66 C at 4.0GHz in prime95 large FFTs with a Nexus PWM fan maxed out (1830rpm) and room temperature about 20 degrees.

I dont think you can go wrong with a Megahalems, they perform along with the best air coolers and are pretty cheap, I'm thinking of selling off my Thor's Hammer and getting Megahalems in the hope of getting a couple of degrees cooler so I can keep my 4.0GHz when the weather warms up.

I've seen a couple of comparisons of Megahalems and H50, they seem to trade blows and the H50 might come out a degree cooler at high overclocks in extreme conditions. But even taking into account you need to buy a fan for the Megahalems, the H50 still costs about twice as much (at least where I live).

If you want to go even cheaper, as Eric mentioned the cheaper Xigmateks are a good bargain, almost as good but dirt cheap.
 
Those xigmateks look very interesting. Does anyone have any experiences with the cogage true spirit.

It's a tad overrated (ESPECIALLY by [H]), IMHO. I'm getting very similar temps to what I was getting with my Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with an identical fan.

Only reason I have it is because it was super cheap locally (yay Craigslist) ... :cool:
 
i have an h50 on mine. clocked to 3.5 max load is 49-50C. idle is 30-33C depending on room temp.
serves my purposes well and saves space and weight
 
I have a Scythe Kama Angle on my i5-750 and it's overclocked to 3.8ghz while never going above 70ish max load. My house computer room is rather warm and the thing is damn silent too. Picked it up for less than forty dollars on newegg.
 
I have i5 750 @ 3.91GHz 1.245v paired with Cooler Master Hyper 212+ (2 fans) and temperatures never go above 70C, except LinX. Great performance for comparatively cheap cooler!
 
If you go to frozencpu, you can actually buy a Cogage True Spirit with an 1156 bracket.

Works pretty well imo! Best thing is that cooler is good and allows you to use all four of your memory sockets. I've bought 2 so far and they seem to work really well, granting a 4.2Ghz OC on and I7 930, and I was able to get 4Ghz on the I5-750 before the mem/MB started Puking at me lol
