Good HTPC Mobo?

mm true.

what do i need? nothing really. i don't have anything fancy to hook it up to, it's more of a project thing for me than a useful thing. my main consideration here is, would this be reliable, without oc'ing? the gpu should tide me over for the time being i hope, and how good is the onboard 5.1 audio? that is one of my main concerns, the audio quality. (no i dont need some fancy XFI card or anything like that)

anyways, eventually this will become something worthwhile as i upgrade, i just finished my new core2 gaming rig so this is just a project for when i have some change lying around.

i already have a hauppage wintv pvr tuner in my new comp which i will simply swap out. and eventually i will upgrade my main desktop and then this will allow me to put my 7600gt oc into my HTPC.
 
If you want decent 5.1, depending on ur speakers of course, I would not settle for integrated. You don't need an X-Fi. I don't think it's all that anyway. I'm testing one out now and it really isn't worth the $ IMO. My M-Audio sounds better and cheaper.
 
6100 mobo's will be too weak for HD content so if your not worried about playing back anything HD then your fine. But if you want HD you'll want atleast a 6150 and even still the 6150's are still a little on the weak side for HD.

Why the hell would you need an X-Fi, creative cards are so so over rated. IF you doing simple spdif passthrough to an external AV reciver the onboard spdif out through the braket is perfectly fine for HTPC use. X-Fi's are not a HTPC type sound card what so ever.

i like Asus A8N-CSM VM, it works great in a matx form factor, and no noisy fans.....
 
i'm not too worried about HD content as i don't have any atm, and by the time i do i'll have up'd my desktop and then i can just throw a 7600 gt oc in there.

i think i'll stick with the onboard sound then if it's not gonna be a huge factor. the onboard sounds is one of the first things that drew me to this board. i figure 1 less pci card the better. also it has 2 pci slots which is useful shud i need any sort of expansion cards on top of the tuner.
