My system specs are below, right now all I have is the stock Intel HS/F, can anyone recommend a good heatsink (or heatsink+fan combo) that would be good for this system? I plan to do a little overclocking, nothing extreme though.

Thanks

The best heatsinks are made by Thermalright and Swiftech. Gigabyte has a new style heatsink/fan though that does very well. It performs as well or better then even thermalright heatsinks when the fan on it is cranked to full. Of course its loud with the speed at full. It does pretty well at 3,000 rpm's.

Thermalright SP-94 and a panaflo 92 MM fan is a great silent way to go. Or, if you can handel the noise, a 92 MM tornado on it will give you AWESOME cooling.

Just my 2 cents :)

Sorry I'm happy

Will also throw down a vote for a Zalman 7000 AL-CU. If you have a Fry's near you, I picked up mine for $29.99 + Tax.

Bastard, I had to pay 36 for mine :(

I vote for the Al-Cu too. It's quiet and cools my system pretty well. Cost me $35, no shipping, no tax.

Thanks, may head down to Fry's this weekend and check some of those out....

swiftech MCX478-V (can use low CFM, great cooling)
zalman 7000 (really low noise, very good cooling)
thermalright SP94 (needs a bit more CFM, but cools great)

there. done.

yup, me too. great heatsink. extremely quiet, i get 38/45 with a 2.66 at 3.1

If I have a Really powerful fan, would the 7000 alcu or sp94 be better?
what about the other zalman models like the 7000cu

yea im confused, u guys say the 7000alcu instead of the 7000 cu why?
money? performance?

you cant really change the fan on the zalman. well, you can, its just strange and a little tricky.

i think there isnt much diff b/w the cu and alcu, except in price.

with a really powerful fan, an sp94 will own a zalman or swiftech. it lives for the CFM.

In tests, Zalman 7000Cu only has like 1 or 2 degrees of performance better than the AlCu, while costing about $10 - 15 more. In that price range, getting the Thermalright would be a better decision.

And yeah, the Zalman is a heatsink with a fan, but it's really tricky if you want to change out the fan.

If you want to use your own fan, use a Thermalright.

here are som examples of performance difference between all these heatsinks. put a tornado on the zalman and im sure u can take the top spot. and there shouldnt be a noticeble difference between the top 10 at least.

in terms of what? idle temps may be close, but load temps WILL scale out much higher, especially under o/c conditions.

if i have a 120mm exhaust fan at the side of my casing, right ontop of the hsf, would it be better to invert the fan on the hs so that it sucks instead of blows down on the hs?

Man, I feel lucky. I got my 7000cu for $28.50.

I hit the Xoxide Xhour thingy at just the right time. Funny thing is, that was over a month ago and I'm just now getting around to installing the darn thing.
