I have been looking at real hardware sas/sata raid controllers (lsi, intel, areca) that support raid 1/5/10/50/60 and there doesn't seem to be any that will work in a whitebox. Does anyone know of one?

I need it to be SAS/SATA 6gbs compliant and would prefer 2 internal SAS ports for at least 8 drive support.

I want to use it on a x79 motherboard (msi-gd45-8d).

People say this adaptec card has good compatibility in non server boards...going to give it a shot.

I have that cards little HBA brother "6805e" and it's been working well for me. I've tested it using "EVGA X58 and P55 as well as a Gigabyte P55 board. Be careful though, that card is not compatible with UEFI, which almost all new consumer boards have. http://ask.adaptec.com/cgi-bin/adaptec_tic.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=17087&p_created=1305289854
