Can anyone recommend a good QUIET hard drive.

Looking for one with 8mg cache and 7200 rpm.

My friend has the western digital se 7200 2mg cache and thats kinda loud. the whine of hard drive is so annoying

i was thinking about seagate

any recommendations??

Seagates definatly. I've got two of them in my workstation and can't hear them at all. I'd recommend the 7200.7 series for a new one, they're just as quiet and perform great.

Go with the Seagate. I have a 120 GB Seagate, and I can't even hear it running unless I put my ear right up against the case. And it's been running almost 24/7 for over a year now, no problems. :D

Seagates are unbelievably quiet. I didn't notice until I compared them to my shitty IBM Deathstars.

Anyways, you can't even hear them reading or writing, if you have a few fans running around them too.
