Good graphics card update for this set-up?

Currently I'm running a 9600pro because my 9800 fan stopped working and I haven't had time to replace it. However, my birthday and Christmas are both in December so I figured I should consider upgrading if it's worth it. My current computer specs are:

Abit IS7 Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz Northwood CPU
Corsair XMS - 1gb DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9600pro AGP (currently running)

I'm partial to ATI cards (AGP) but if another product is clearly better, I'm open to getting it. I'm not sure of a budget at this point. I'd like something that will be good for a while, especially something I might be able to get away with transferring to a new comp if I build one next summer. I'm not sure if my current set-up will severely bottleneck any of the new graphics cards; my system is about two years old. Newegg links would be greatly appreciated so I can show them to family in case it becomes a gift option.

Thanks for any input.

It would be unwise to do a major AGP upgrade at this point, stick with your current card until you can go pci-e. Or consider a 9800pro, thats a significant step up from a 9600, and only runs 70 bucks or so

I had a 9800pro but the hsf broke and I haven't had time to replace it. If it's best to stick with a 9800pro then I'll just order a new hsf, but if I can upgrade I'd like to.
