What are good open source or freeware key stroke logger program out there? I only see many of them that you have to buy and cost like $50.

My younger sister is using my laptop when I'm at work and talking to strange people on myspace or chat rooms and I'm thinking she wants to meet like an older person. I don't want this to happen, you know this country are full of sexual predators. I know a keylogger is the only way to find out in chat rooms.

I know of no good 'free' ones. You may have to resort to illegal activites here. Even then, sketchy at best.

GL mate.

uh, if shes that stupid about logging on to them.. she probably wont disable (or know of) logs.

there are plenty of AIM logging programs out there, and built into it, try using that.

if you are still worried bout that kind of thing going on, setup the computer so it takes a printscreen and dumps it to a folder every minute if you are logged on the right user.. gadwin printscreen can do the printscrn'ing for you.

you just make a new user account for your sister and put it in the start up. it works out much better than key loggers (hell, have you ever looked at the output of the key logger?) and it can also show you what other people are typing.

however, if you are conviced about a keylogger.. check out regload (i think is the name) its an open source keylogger.

dam I can't get regload, two of the links I found was not working. Can someone please post a link to this program for download.

Ok what about the paid ones? I need recommendations on which is the best out there. I have win XP pro 32. I know some of them are free and fully working for limited time, example 30 days trial.

CyberSitter isn't free, but does sell a keylogging package for the exact reasons you've listed. If I were in your shoes, I would just pony up the cash.

I think the best solution here is not a technical one. Have you told your parents what you believe might be going on?

Keylogging software is pretty poorly done in the first place. There are no free ones available that I am aware of.

My suggestion would be to just use some kind of parental control program or something like OpenDNS to block MySpace and other services.

Also I would talk to your little sister about trust and her relationship with her parents. Say she does go meet someone older than her from the internet and your parents find out about it, your parents will never trust her again for a very long time (most parents anyways). Make that clear to her to try to influence her to stay away from that kind of behavior.

I wrote one some years back, I will check to see if I still have it. Haven't tried it on vista or anything, but I tested it out when I was in college and installed it on 20+ computers one morning and came back at night and downloaded all the files generated. Cool thing was the campus was using some guardian program that when the computer shut off anything installed or saved to the computer would be gone.

Tons of email, bank, etc. I deleted it the data later. I just did it for a homework assignment to prove a point about security.

heh yeah, i have something like that, i set it loose on my campus' DC++ network.

thankfully i installed an remote on/off command.. the next night i had ~50MBs of text files telling me what people were downloading and uploading (stupid fragmented downloaders..)

didnt really use it for much. but it was fun to see how it spread throughout DC++, wanst detected by any antivirus either..

how about just password protect your account and she can't get into your pc? is that not an option?

Thanks for the link I will try it out.
She has the use the computer and she is allow to. We have 4 computers total at home. So this laptop she can use so there is no need to password protect it. She knows about the danger and said she would never meet any one in person if they ask. As long as that, she is allow to use the computer. I talk to her yesterday.

My main gaming rig is on my sig, and the intel 865gb with the P4 is the server and I have another laptop just for torrents with peerguardian.

Yeah, I honestly didn't take the time to "fine tune" the program; I started writing the code for it to send me the info remotely, but my paper was do and I had to just go with it.

does anyone here know if this is a safe program to download and install on your computer?

I have a brother who is concerned with his daughter's use of chat rooms on the net... but I don't want to recommend him something that will install a bunch of spyware and adware on his machine, however I have no way to tell if this is the case here

If it's that important, purchase Spector Soft eBLASTER
http://www.spectorsoft.com/

Runs totally hidden, and e-mails you VERY detailed reports...broken down into categories. Web browsing, web searches, chat programs, e-mails, programs run, etc etc etc. Excellent package.

A lot must have changed since last year.

http://code.google.com/p/freelogger/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/elogger/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bfk/
http://www.rohos.com/kid-logger/

There are more but a quick Google search turns up quite a few. I don't normally condone their use, though. I encourage anyone to thoroughly think it through and make sure you have a valid reason and there are no other options...also think about how you would feel if someone used one on you and could go back and read everything you wrote in emails, gather your passwords, etc.

POINT: TOTALLY MISSED.

No, he just clarified his original post with a followup after I posted. He made it sound like she wasn't supposed to be using the computer at all, which he later stated that she could. That said, keylog away.

Sorry for answering in an old thread :)
