good dvd movie making software?

i'm trying to find some software that is worth getting. i want to be able to compile my homemade movies and stuff onto dvds and create some form of menu system to pick and choose as i browse around. what can i use to do what i'm tryign to do? any ideas?
 
does that let me divide it into chapters and upload mpegs. my fiance's mom got married and i did all sorts of digital video work and i'm trying to create a really neat dvd full of pictures and video and such.

when you convert mpegs to dvd , do they take the same room or do they always expand a lot? i was reading somewhere about ulead dvd factory and the guy was saying how a 500 meg movie will fill up an entire 4.7 gig dvd. seems kind of high....
 
an mpeg2 file runs about 4.7GB per 60 - 120 minutes depending on quality.

I been using tmpgenc dvd source creator and tmpgenc dvd author
 
wow. thats crazy huge decompression.
what is the difference between mpeg2 and dvd quality compression then, does it actually boost the look of the movie?
how long does it take to do all that?
 
.VOB are actually MPEG 2 files. they are the same thing.
 
then what was all that mess about the mpegs taking a lot more space on the dvd...
is that wrong or... did i just not understand.
if its the same compression and everything that doesn't quite make sense.
 
I think you might of read a 500MB avi or divx movie will take an entire DVD since most cameras put out an avi format output.
 
you're probably right.
either way, my sony puts out mpeg though.
am i going to notice anything with those?
 
Sony Vegas is the sh!t.....

Ive tried everything from pinnacle, windows moviemaker, ulead products, adobe premier, etc....

Vegas is super easy to use and it can do anything....
 
I second the Sony Vegas recommendation with huge enthusiasm for raw editing, but when it's time to compile the DVD with menus and such I use Sony DVD Architect 2. I've only tried one other (I think was a Ulead product) and didnt like it as much.
