I currently own a E4500 + Msi P35-Neo2-FR + Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and was wondering what ram should I get to push it to 3.5ghz or so. Is 6400 enough? Any brand/kit recommendation?

I have used Crucial Ballistix 667, Buffalo Firestix 667, and corsair xms2 800

The Firestix's over clocked around 1200 the Ballistix overclocked to around 1000 and the corsair couldn't overclock.

This was on a p5n-e board it is different for every board and every stick of ram.

If I were to buy ram today I would get this

I bought the cheapest Crucial 1G x 2 kit for $20, after rebate, and the modules and chips were Samsung. Samsung was even printed on the Crucial paper label on the chips.

I've had good luck with the OCZ Platinum memory:

I usually like to push the FSB to 400 if the board and processor will do it, set the memory to 1:1, and lower the CPU multiplier appropriately to arrive at your desired overclock. Recently did a friends E2180 build like this, and it worked out very well. You might only need DDR2-667 if you don't push the FSB a lot.

The E4500 has a multiplier of 11, right? 11×200 = 2200?

If so, you only need 3500 ÷ 11 = 318.1818, so DDR2-800 will get you there easy as it's rated for 400 MHz. It'll take you to 4.4 GHz before you *may* run into an issue, more likely than not you'll run into a wall on your chip before maxing your RAM and board out.

So, if I was in your situation, I'd just get anything that's rated for DDR2-800 and is cheap. Instead of dropping the multiplier, I'd leave it at 11 though because it means less stress on the rest of the system and people have not really demonstrated any major performance differences on these setups with higher FSB.

Most of DDR2 800 will clock higher as long as it's not a value RAM
Crucial, OCZ, Geil, GSkill and even Adata and Team will do just fine running above their stock, currently i have my 4 stick corsair clocked at 1020Mhz and 4-4-4-12 timming for 24/7, needs 2.3v to be stable though.:)

thx

spend $50 for every 2gb of DDR2 800 RAM you buy and you're almost guaranteed good quality. G-skill, Crucial, and OCZ are good while even ADATA will do well too.

I have my DDR2 800 crucial ballistix running 5-5-5-18 at 880mhz at 2.2v. it's a pretty light 10% overclock with relaxed timing but it's still not shabby at stock voltage... that and whenever i try to run 4-4-4-12 it gets really weird on me, running well for a few days and then BSOD'ing
