Hi everyone,
Does anyone know of a good simulator for the CCNA? I'm looking at studying up on this since I'm moving from a development job to a Tech position. I still have a router and switch to practice on, router is 2600 series and I forgot what the switch was. I've seen a couple but they seem to have mixed reviews. I'm just curious if anyone has personal experience with any of these.

I'm really looking at the boson software. Don't really want to spend hundreds on more routers and switches.

Sybex, and Testking are great. (Google it) Or you can go to http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/index.html and sign up for the online course material. You can do your CCNA in 4 semesters, and taking the CCNA 1 and CCNA 2 tests gets you your CCENT and then do CCNA 3 and 4 and take the final test.

There is a very good simulator made by Cisco themselves called Packet Tracer, I use it a lot for doing my CCNA labs. It features sims for lots of cisco hardware, it even has WAN simulation and more. The IOS they use in the simulations are up to date. They offer it to online students. Or you can google Packet Tracer 4.11 and get it via torrent, or I could send to you if wish.

awesome, Thanks for the replies. I will be taking a look at both.

Just a quick question Kaiga, when you say the CCNA can be done in 4 semesters, is that actuall 16-week regular semesters? :)

Packet tracer is awesome for this type of stuff. I'm currently enrolled in Cisco 2, and we use Packet Tracer from Cisco 1-4. (We also use the hardware too.)

How much is the online training for the CISCO academy? The site is kind of confusing to navigate. Do I have to have some kind of corporate sponsership?

all you need a is a decent PC and http://www.dynagen.org/. unlike simulators this runs an actual IOS.

Dynamips and dynagen were one of the best tools, alongside the actual 2x 2610s that I owned, in helping me pass the CCNA. As long as you have access to IOS images you are set. You can even use your real hardware with dynamips if you can configure properly. Here are some other links related to dynamips/dynagen that you may want to look at:

Dynamips Blog

confdynagen
GNS3

I would seriously look into dynamips & dynagen to compliment your CCNA studies.
