Good case for a beginning modder?

Hi guys. I've just decided today that the case I was going to buy, well, I guess I just want something with more "umph". So, I figured I could mod a case. This being my first time, however, what kind of case would you recommend I get for starters? My plan is pretty much a skull motif (Like that's real original :p ). I think that'll mod only the front of the case, but I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do. I'm thinking something with a Grim Reaper, with it almost melding into the case and only showing the skull with hood, and the chest/ribs. Along with that, I think I want to line the edges of the case with some skulls.

If you guys have any suggestions (For the case or the actual mod itself), please feel free to add input! Thanks guys!
 
My recommendation is something cheap, to start on. Check out the cheap-ass SkyHawks at Newegg.

There are probably a lot of people that will be a lot more helpful, and even more that'll tell you that you should start with a Lian Li or something that'll cost you a week's pay. Cutting up something cheap for your first will make you feel way less guilty than tearing apart a pricier model.
 
Yeah, I really don't want to end up paying a ton of money for something that I could possibly screw up anyway. But it seems like a relatively simple mod, so I don't really think I have to worry all that much with the new idea I just thought of. I'll go have a look at Newegg's cases again, and hopefully I can find something that looks nice bare, just incase I chicken out of the mod. ;)
 
For an experiment case, just get a cheapo CompUSSR one. They actually aren't half bad, or at least the one my local store carries as their budget case isn't... four front intake fans, ample 3.5" bays, and are basically a clean slate to do whatever aesthetic mods you want. Mods geared towards performance would be harder to do, I think... but hey, it's a clean canvas to do whatever you want, and not too costly if you screw up.
 
You could also check out a electronics, or computer store and see if they have any "old" cases that they would be willing to 'give away' rather then store. I picked one up for free that was dented and unsellable. It just so happened the dent was a area in a area i was going to be removing anyways :D

For modding, the cheaper the better ;)
