I am getting deployed to Djbouti Africa for 10 months. They said that they will have access to computers to send pictures back via internet. I was wondering which camera I should get. I need a good quality one that will not break easily or let dust and sand all in it. Please advise on which one you guys recommend.

We'll need to know roughly your budget, level of experience, what you intend to photograph and all before we can make good suggestions.

One thing I can suggest, though, is that you get a circular polarizing filter, regardless of what kind of camera you end up with. Definitely try to get a camera that would allow such an addition, in any case -- just make sure it has a filter thread of some kind. I picture it being very bright there, and a CPL will be the best way to reduce glare, particularly on the ocean and sand and such (which I imagine you'll be seeing a lot of, from what little I know about Djibouti).

price range is around 225. I dont really have much experience with digital cameras so I need just the basic setup. I would like one that supports the memory cards. Cheap memory cards that is. I plan on buying a few and shipping them home.

I'd say buy whatever camera that floats your boat for about 220. Then buy a box of ziploc bags with the rest. j/k
