Well...i have been looking for a new digital camera for some time, i recently bought the coolpix 7600 but returned it becuase i hated how it ran off of AA batteries, and they would die after about 15minutes of being on.

So, i just need a camera that is....
-under the $300 price range
-small (able to fit in pocket easily)
-good brand like canon
-and well, has a good reputation.

all help will be greatly appreciated

www.gotapex.com has a bunch of dell deals available on canons and kodak cameras that fit your needs...I'm looking at the deal for the 4MP CX7430 Kodak easy share for $141 shipped.

FYI- if you get the rechargable AA's they last much, much longer. I have an Olympus 4040Z, which runs off AAs. With normal alkalyne AAs, it gets 10-15 pictures before they are dead. With a set of 2500mAh NiMH batteries, I get a couple hundred shots before I have to recharge them.

college is pretty much a place where digital cameras go to die (or be murdered).

to tell you the truth i would get something along the lines of a cannon a60 or a75 at the most

both are quite reasonably priced now, and offer alot of features including full manual controls if you ever want to mess around with that.

My first a60 got a beer spilled on it during a heated beer pong match, and my a75 fell to its death at another party (luckly it was under warantee still so i just sent it back and got a new one with no questions asked)

definetly go with something that you won't care that much about. i have also seen video cameras, laptops, keyboards, LCDs, etc. have simliar deaths.

For the money (261.00 at dell) right now i cant see a better college camera than a canon powershot sd400. 5 megapixels with a weight of only 5 ounces in a credit card sized package cant be beat.

I have a Canon powershot s30 (3 megapixel) and s70 (7 megapixel) and still ordered the sd400 because of its portability. Guess I might have to sell one of the other ones soon. :(

A510 or A520, possibly one of the SD models if you want something smaller.

OptioWP. The camera is small and waterproof. It is also 5mp, 3xOptical Zoom, great battery life, small. Because it is waterproof, it can be used in harsh environments...It is a secondary camera to my RebelXT....

People say the Canon SD20 is the best small camera on the market. The images it takes are very sharp. The only problem is that there's no zoom. Which at college isn't that big of a deal because more shots are taken at close range, i.e. bars or clubs.

If you are looking for something with some reach the I loved my S1 IS, which is for sale if you want it. 10x zoom with IS great all around camera.

I'm looking for a SD20 right now to go along with my dRebel XT. I just can't stuff a Rebel in my pocket.

Zoom is overrated. The last poster was right, stick with something like the SD20. Primes are sharper anyway. Get into the action and shoot it =)

I'm in the same boat, I was leaning towards a sd300 or sd400 since I currently live in hawaii and the all weather case would be very nice.
