I'm looking for a decent budget video card for a PC that I'm building. Nothing over 200$ Canadian but it needs to be able to handle doom 3 on low-medium settings.

Check out the Nvidia 6600GT...not sure how much it is Canadian though. A 9800pro wouldn't be that bad of a choice.

9600XT is a really good card. It handles doom3 on medium settings and you should be able to get it for 200 canadian i think.

$200 Canadian = $150 US give or take differences in taxes & tarifs.

isnt the 6600GT only PIC-E?
There will be an AGP version. Not sure when they will start showing up in retail though.

If you can wait, I would also recommend the 6600 series. ATi should have a new mainstream (aka "budget" for us) card out sometime "soon".

I would recommend a 9600xt over the 5700, from personal experience I find it to preform quite a bit better. And price comparison wise, the 5700 are priced a bit higher.

Here is a 9600 pro

Compared to a 5700

Now you could spend a few more dollars and get something that would last a little longer, such as

The 9600XT's have been selling for around $100 US shipped in the for sale forum here on the [H]. That would probably be your best bet.

for ~150 US you can try finding a used 5900XT. If not, get a new 9600XT :)

9600XT is the best i think
the GFFX cards have hmmm issues >.>
mostly with DX9 or lack there of....

Look for a cheap 9500 Pro or 9700 Pro on the FS/T forums. Either of these will be leaps and bounds better than a 9600 XT, whose 4 pipe 128 bit architecture just doesn't cut it, even with very high clock rates.

If your looking around a 9600XT range I would agree with the above post and try to find a 9500 or 9700 because you are going to get more out of those cards. 9600XT isn't a bad choice though if you can't find one.

Unless you're gonna OC dont bother with 9500 Pro. Its not faster than a 9600 XT unless you like 1600x1200 with FSAA/AF, which isnt real relevant since both cards are too slow to perform decently at that res/quality in the latest games. If you can find the 9700 Pro for cheap jump on that.
