Hi guys,
I'm looking for a decent ATA card capable of raid 5. I have 4 300gb ATA133 drives here I'd like to build a file server with. Hopefully, I can throw some more HDDs in there in the future.

Got anything that comes to mind?

Thanks!

EDIT: needs to work nicely with Linux too!

HighPoint RocketRaid 1740.

Highpoints linux support is good. Drivers for many distros and an opensource build.

You can buy plain ATA cards and run software raid. ATA raid wasn't all that fast or reliable, so you can benefit from having the power of a modern processor at your disposal. Linux software raid is rather easy to set up, expandable, and fast. Compared to hardware- (or firmware-) based raid, that's two advantages, and three if you don't mind reading the man page for mdadm a dozen times or so.

Unless you are looking for a used card on ebay or something most cards in that range are going to be software based. I agree with rage with the idea of just getting an ide controller and running software raid in linux.
