So I recently got my first Android powered phone (Samsung Intercept) and I'm wondering what the best games out there are? There is so much to choose from in the market it's maddening and would take forever.

So far I've got Angry Birds and Jewels... Angry Birds is awesome except it has some kind of a slowdown bug with the current version on certain levels on my phone.

Jewels is a knockoff of Bejeweled (obviously) but it's quite addicting and fun and lends itself quite naturally to the touch screen.

Must.eat.birds is fun....
Barrage is a scorched earth knock off that is a blast.
Colorix...
Cubes free (guy from XDA made it)
Reckless racing...
Robo defense (love it)
Xgalaxy
Fruit ninja
Totemo HD (another great game)
Super KO boxing

Running an Evo on Fresh rom 3.4.0.1

Btw, plants vs zombies will not be released until 2011

There are a lot of ports of that game on marketplace. I had one that played exactly the same although I can't remember the name of it.

MiniGore
Doodle Jump
Space Physics
Homerun Battle 3D (must have)
Let's Golf (not on marketplace, must get through Gameloft)
Gangstar (again, on Gameloft)
Guns 'n Glory
Slice It
Air Control
Recless Racing (must have)
Angry Birds (must have)

Those are the games that have stood the test of time on my phone

Sofar Fruit Ninja has impressed me most, it's pretty awesome and graphically impressive for a 'phone game'. I haven't started on Blown 89's suggestions yet though... :)

I'm sure most people know this but some might not but Gameloft's games are all on their website, only a couple of them are on marketplace. They're the same as the iPhone versions.

Also, Slice It is free on Getjar.com

A lot of quality games, but don't forget the emulators, I use snesoid and gameboid the most.

Fruit Ninja
Pocket Legends. Free but to access everything you have to pay. So far I havent paid a dime. Feels like a shrunken simplified WoW.

I can't believe no one has said the number one free game in the market right now:

Angry Birds.
I'm an addict lol.

Another vote for robo defense. Quite fun if you like tower defense type games.

Could also give Paper Toss a try. It is fun in short bursts.

Angry Birds is a good game. It's free as an Android app?

Yeah, or at least it's free for a version with rotating ad banners at the top of the screen.

I love it, but the current version has some kind of weird slowdown bug on my phone. Once you get to a certain level it stalls and only goes like one frame every 2 seconds. Driving me crazy because I really want to keep playing.

FYI for Angry Birds fans.....Angry Birds Seasons went up on the market today:

WORDFUED!! It's like Words With Friends (Scrabble) on the iPhone but the Android version. Challenge me @ RBTradition. I'm addicted to the game.

I have the T-Mobile G2....Does anyone know hot to jailbreak the phone without causing any damages??

What I don't get is why so many of these apps need permissions.

Eg:
Slice it needs permission:
Turn on Wi-Fi
Network communication
Phone access
Retrieve running apps
Your location

Why exactly?

Just got ahold of my very first Android phone. Very pleased, and with a thread like this it's already loaded with time wasting apps.

Gameloft has some very nice demos that play great and demo your phone nicely. They are $5 a pop, and I will say I haven't bought one yet, but I intend to. I just hope the length and depth of the games are up to par because the graphics are superb, on a phone that can run them well that is. They play great on my DroidX.

Just want to say thanks again for all the awesome replies to this thread, it's definitely keeping me busy! Please feel free to keep the replies and suggestions coming!

Spider-man was just released by Gameloft, it's by far the best game I've ever played on a cell phone. Let's Golf 2 is week made too. I hate supporting Gameloft's distribution model but they make the best games on both the iphone and Android imo.

Need for Speed Shift was just releases for Android too.

Let me add:

Dungeon Defenders: First Wave (coming from a very successful run on iphone to android on Dec 23)

Keeping this thread alive.

New Gameloft Games:
Shrek Kart
Splinter Cell HD
GT Motor Racing Academy should be out soon

Get Set Games has announced that Mega Jump will be out this week as well.

How's the psx emu ? I'd love some good RPG, GT and maybe a fighting game

Anyone with a Samsung Captivate thats uses it ?

Even with the update the other day I hear there are a lot of problems with games not working right. I never installed it because there's no way I'm spending that kind of money on a program that doesn't work that well.

I find myself playing emulators mostly. The Retro emulators like NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy all work really well and are free unless you want save states. Save states are really useful for games like fire emblem and to quit at any time though. The PSX emulator I haven't tried yet the retro emulators been keeping me busy enough that I haven't wanted to spend money on this one. I heard issues with popular games like Final Fantasy 8 and 9 so haven't bothered yet.

I searched on google for games for droid x and pretty disapointed not much out there. I want to get the PSx emulator but keep reading stories games are bugged at certain points... For now... angry brids ftw :(

It's only available in demo form (the "real" game isn't finished yet), but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend X Construction. I cannot freakin' WAIT for the full game.
