I just got my mother the Dell 2001FP (20.1" I believe) and her current video card doesn't support the resolutions this monitor requires to work "awesomely"... So what do you guys reccomend $200 or less, AGP. I was thinking the ATI Radeon 9800 or 9600 she doesn't game at all but my brother uses it sometimes to game.. Maybe a GeforceFX5500 ?

Opinions suggestions for 90% Biz. apps and internet...

yah, 6600gt. I'd suggest the x700 pro since it seems to be cheaper, but ati's dying in doom3, so i'd go nvidia since theirs seem to do well in most games these days.

[Edit:] Oh, and if you feel like taking a risk, or not getting the freebie games, newegg has refurbished oem xfx6600g's for sale. 151$ for pci-e,164$ for agp. didn't include shipping, but it's probably from 3-5$.

the guy said AGP and no games will be played on it

First off, I doubt his mom is any good at Doom 3. Second, I don't know to many mom's who appreciate 1600x1200 as much as we do. I'll be the first thing she says when it's all hooked up is "but everything's too small...."

Alright, scratch the x700 off any form of consideration then, and get a 6600gt. There was mention of a brother that would use it to play games.

[Edit:] spelling...

Honestly a 6600GT is overkill. If there is only going to be mild gaming then I would go with a 9600 Pro, or a 9550. At the $100 price range I just dont see NV offering anything to compete with these two cards.

I personally believe ATi cards offer slightly better desktop apperence, I could notice the difference when working on a friends new 6800GT and coming home to my 9800 Pro, mainly in pictures and lots of text.

Also, for those of you who complain about people not liking 1600x1200, I peronsally do not like it. I'm rather young being only 19, text is to small, only benefiet to me is when viewing pictures.

Ya, just get something like a vanilla 6600GT. I think it's just ppl here are used to talking about gaming. a 6600GT is overkill here people.. Heck my MX440 can do good image quality.
So just get a cheap one, under $100 would be fine. Just make sure it has DX9 support and a DVI Connector.

Also, I have 1024x768 right now (tiny monitor) and I cant stand it, I can use 1600x1200 at my school and its so much easier on the eyes. I prefer to have a large desktop, so I ca view bigger images and read more text at a time, plus gaming is sweet.
