Does anybody have any recommendations on a very sleek and basic desk? I would prefer if I am able to put my PC on top of it, not a fan of hiding it in some cubby hole with no air flow. So far I haven't been very successful with finding something that doesn't look like it's from the early 90s...

To me, desks are so personal that without extremely detailed criteria, I would have no idea what to tell you.
If you don't care much about ergonomics or layout, just buy one of those glass and tube frame desks from the office store chains for $80-250.
Is that affordable?
I want a $2800 desk. Is it affordable? Is it reasonable?
My wife and I do not agree on what those words mean.

Heh, I used a costco folding table back in college. My CRT tore that thing up! lol. I use a jerker now, but here's an old post of mine...

For cheap + customizable, I suggest Ikea Vika Amon and Vika Curry legs. For expensive + customizable, I'd suggest Ikea Galant. If you're lucky, you can find a jerker on CL for rather cheap (typically $50).
This is my old setup:
I had this setup a couple years ago...
Vika Amon Tabletop, 39.4" x 23.6", $10
Vika Amon Tabletop, 59" x 29.5", $30
Vika Curry Legs x8, $4 each ($32)
Simpson metal joint/strap + screws from Home Depot, <$10
Held my CRT pretty well, and gave me a lot of desktop space for only $90.
DIY is awesome cuz you can fully customize everything, but I figure if you were into that, you wouldn't be here asking for desk suggestions. /shrug
The seem is nearly seemless to me now, with the Simpson bracket holding them together (which also allowed me to move the leg out of the way).
