I have a friend who asked me for a recomendation for a DV. Well my knowlege is obsolete and would like recomendations.

Purpose
General recording, will be used for a few film projects for school.

The Canon ZR series would probably be your best bet. There's just one problem with them, though, and that's that they need a ton of light. They record beautiful, vibrant video in bright light, but in something like a room with just one ceiling light, the video gets grainy and colors bleed. If you're mainly shooting outside, go for the ZR85 or ZR90 if you can get it for that price.
