I'm going to be using the monitor for gaming most of the time and I've been looking for monitors with 1920 x 1200 resolution. It seems that good ones I come across are either discontinued or beyond my price range if I do manage to find new ones (for example, the BenQ V2400W or G2400WD). Since this is mainly for gaming I'd prefer it to have a very fast pixel response time. My price range is preferably around $300, but I'd be willing to go to $350 max. Thanks for any help.

Sadly, $300 is kind of a "no man's land" as far as 24" monitors are concerned. It's more expensive than what you should pay for a TN panel, and less than what you can get a nice PVA or IPS panel for.

WTF kind of answer is that? He didn't state he would only spend $300, just that $300 was his max and he's willing to bend to $350.
That doesn't mean he can't spend $200 - $250 for a nice TN and pocket some money...

I too am interested in the suggestions for the OP.

Hmmmm...so I managed to find a cheaper refurbished V2400W for under $300. What are your thoughts about getting a refurbished monitor? Yes, no, maybe?

Samsung T240 is pretty nice.

T240HD cost a bit more but you a TV turner and composite inputs.

Well here's the links. I found both the V2400W and the G2400WD:

Anyway, according to Google, this vendor has overall good ratings with 444 or something so far.
This is their warranty statement on the product page(s):

* Warranty Length: This product comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty for end-users only. (Damaged or defective items, received from shipper, must be emailed to Customer Service within thirty days.)
* Coverage: The warranty covers parts and labor only (no replacement). Dead pixels or hot pixels are not covered under the warranty. Due to the nature of the LCD technology, flat panel displays can have components fail within the display that cause dead pixels. Although some users may consider this a defect, most manufacturers will not replace or repair the LCD.
* Provider: This warranty is provided by BenQ.
* Contact: If you have a problem that requires warranty service, please contact BenQ's Customer Service at 1-949-255-9500 or 1-866-500-2367.
* Technical Support : Should you require technical support on this product, please contact the BenQ Technical Support Team at 1-949-255-9500 or 1-866-500-2367.

The only thing that kind of worries me is that the warranty doesn't seem to cover dead pixels. I've been looking through all the fine print to see that I'm not missing anything, and it looks okay so far. So, what do you think?

ive got a T240HD, got it for $300 in amazon.com for 350 you can get its 26' brother, the T260HD. I like this monitor alot, 2 HDMI, DVI, Component and D-Sud, and you get a Tuner inside too. good buy

I have both the BenQ G2400WD and the Samsung T240HD stated by the above poster.

Neither is really worth it to me. They are taking a backseat to a newer Dell 2209WA. The BenQ in my opinion is better, unless you need all the Samsung's inputs and whatnot.

To tell you the truth I am heavily considering getting rid of these monitors. The BenQ does have very acceptable colors if you position it properly and it will deliver better response time than the Samsung for sure.

I agree with this. The V2400W is probably the best TN panel monitor still. Its 1:1 pixel mapping feature is very good, and its 1920x1200. Buy.com is selling some refurbished models as well (brand new ones are selling in the $400s now):

it's top rated because most gamers don't know jack about displays or have any in-depth knowledge of computer hardware.

And if the primary purpose is PC gaming, they don't NEED much knowledge about displays (in-depth knowledge of computer hardware is a different story). PC gaming doesn't really need much in terms of color accuracy, they benefit most from low response time and input lag. TN monitors tend to provide just that, and for a cheap price. So why not go for that?

Now, I'll admit, that if I were the OP I would've forgone the 1920x1200 resolution and gone for the 2209WA. Just because TN panels tend not to fulfill my needs. But for the OP's requirements, the monitor he chose should be fine.

I just bought the V2400W. I'm crossing my fingers that everything goes smoothly and that the monitor is in good condition. I'm assuming they will process the order and ship by the end of Monday. How long does UPS Ground usually take? Should I expect it by the end of the week?

I guess I'll just put it to the back of my mind for now. I've got a quiz, a test, and some programming to do this week, probably all before I'll be getting the monitor anyway. I can't wait to see what my games look like in 1920 x 1200. I've been playing on 1280 x 1024 for long enough.

BenQ G2400WD can be found on sale for as low as 250 at times. Im not gonna go into details, search this forum, its simply the best 24" for the price.

Let me just note that my boss just got a 500 dollar 24", its not a TN. His 2400wd is next to it. The new expensive one, the color and blacks are kind of uneven across the screen, and it has nasty backlight bleed. The G2400 is darker, totally even from one end of the screen to another both directions, and has virtually no bleed.

BenQ G2400WD FTW

Yeah, from what I've read the V2400W and the G2400WD are the exact same panel, but with different designs and mounting capabilities. Anyway, the vendor just called me to confirm my address and said it should be here by Thursday or Friday.

Everything I have read suggests the same thing. The V is also very well reviewed here and elsewhere, so you cannot go wrong with either. I got my G2400WD from ncixus for 270+shipping :)
