Hey, this would be my first lcd im going to be buying, im just wondering of whats the best 19" lcd out right now, or should i go with a 17? im going from a NEC 930SB-BK crt, to some sort of 19" lcd only reason im doing this is because of space, im away at college and my monitor is too fuckin big for my dorm, so i wanna get an lcd in the 17"-19" range, i got about 500 to spend so what would be my best bet?

I'd get the BenQ FP937s 12ms 19" LCD. You can get it shipped for $550 at

I've had it for a month now and love it. Colors are great after you calibrate it and there's no ghosting at all. There is some motion blur with Farcry, but thats the only game I can really notice it. I don't notice the blur in any other fps I play such as Doom 3, Tribes Vengence, and Planetside.

Do you play those games at the native resolution or something different? Do you experience any loss in image quality playing at something different than native resolution?

I play at the native resolution 1280X1024 and so can't really comment on scaling. The picture still looks good at 1024X768 though from the little that I saw. Having 19" of viewable screen space is real nice, I would definately go for the 19" over a 17".

What did you use to calibrate the colours? I have a FP931 and am looking to do some better calibration than just "it looks good".

I'll probably pick up a FP937 to be a side-kick to this one.

only 1280x1024? thats quite big, my native on my monitor is 1600x1200 can any 19" lcd's go that high or is 1280x1024 basicly normal?

im mostly using my puter for gaming ofcorse.... college student, bored in dorm, GAAAMMMEEESSSS!!!!! = good :D how do those fair for gaming?

Use a color calibrator. It works wonders. I'm getting the Samsung 193P simply because of the rich color I heard it reaches, as well as a very decent response time to go with it. Since I never had an LCD before, the 20mm response time shouldn't bother me, I believe.

Benq's are real good LCD, especially for the $$$$

1280X1024 is the standard for 19" lcd's. If you want 1600X1200 you'll have to get a 20" or higher.

who makes good 20" TFT's? ive heard good things about BenQ and such, though i guess i can settle for 1280x1024 in a 19" post links of 19" lcds or 20"
