Good 120mm fan?

What is a good 120mm fan? I see everyone likes Panasonic's Panaflo fans, but gosh, newegg wants $25 for one! What's a good alternative?
 
Hey, thanks. I'm not specifically looking for LED lights, but that's cool anyways. May I ask a simple quesion though? This fan:

Moves more air but is louder than the one you suggested (34dBA instead of 22dBA). Would I notice to difference in noise that much? And also, the Thermaltake fan moves a whopping 78 CFM, while the Cooler-Master moves about 43. Do I REALLY need the 78 that the Tt offers, or will the 43 of the CM be enough? I plan to do a tiny bit of overclocking (maybe a 2.8@3.4) but nothing too extreme.

going from 22 db to 34 db is going from something that is difficult to hear, to something that you will most likely hear, but most likely will not be annoying.

however, thermaltake if kown to be pretty "creative" with their sound ratings, and given the airflow that it offers, it wouldn't supprose me if that fan was more like 38 db.

delta has a rep for being loud, but they are not know for fudging their sound rating. now that they are making some product that they rate for about 30 db, that is most likely what it will produce. delta fans are also long-lived and robust.

panaflo fans move good air per noise, and are also very long lived and robust.
 
i use 120mm yate loons thee best fans on the market blending both noise and cfm. Better than the nexus and cheaper too.

why is it that i have some trouble believing that sound rating for a 100 CFM unit? what is their testing procedure exactly?

why does someone looking for a case fan, as opposed to something for a rad, need a 100 CFM fan anyway?

i mean really, why not just cut to the chase and reccomend one of these monsters: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de12tfexhisp.html

this is just getting too silly. guy needs something with like 50 CFM output tops. the nexus, would probably do the job as wel, if he wants quiet as opposed to top cooling. next up are the panaflo lows, maybe try out the delta 25mm low. low 30s db range, and plenty of air from either of them.

you gotta chill out just check out the silentpcreview forums before you get all pompous. People there have tried the fans and do actually like them. Plus these are from people that do have nexus and yate loons so its a good comparison. I believe it might be made by yate loon which is a great fan maker, i still doubt it can push 100cfm though.

pushes plenty of air, and isnt too loud...

dude, i am a pompous ass, and i know it. i am also unlikely to change in that regard.

i also sometime know what i am talking about, and usually try to keep my comments to the point.

not readily available up here, either as a mad dog, or as a yate loon, so i'm unlikely to take one for a test spin.

now as for that last little bit: your don't regard the manufacturer (or the company that re-branded it) lying about their numbers as being a problem? you think that it is a great fan, that you would reccomend, in spite of that?

maybe the noise levels are reasonable for those who have tried them first hand. however, by the numbers posted, it is overkill in terms of airflow.

why overclock your computer? why have more for basically the same price and noise level? Even if it's not 100 cfm, it sure is pushing a lot of air for a reasonable price and same amount of noise and probably better than most. So I dont' see a problem

why overclock my computer? because it gives me nice and measurable FPS gains in the games that i play.

why have more for basicaly the same price level and noise level? well, the same price level, sure. why not? the same noise level, though? if it really is as quiet as the numbers claim, then there is simply no way that it is moving anywhere near as much air as it claims. if it really moves as much air as it claims then there is no way that it is as quiet as it claims.

5000 RPM, 100 CFM and 32 db are not figures that i conceivably see happening all in the same product.

just as an example:

2500 RPM, 104 CFM and 42 db are the numbers for a panaflo H1A 120mm.

if yate loon (or whoever makes the fan) is really doing something so much better than panasonic, delta, sunon and YS tech then props to them, however i am very highly doubtfull.

the problem is that if the fan does not put out what it is speced for, then the company that is selling/marketing it is lying. that is the problem.

well watever or maybe compusa is lying but that still doesn't make the fan a bad purchase. I don't even know how many fans at 120mm could push 100cfm or higher; there's probably a few.

Also, you've never heard of Yate Loon or Nexus?

i have heard of them, yes.
i would have to import a yate loon from the US in order to try one out.
nexus is rare, but available domestically, if i am willing to pay premium for it.
i can easily get the brands that i listed, and i have tried all but YS tech, so i have the specs handy and used them for comparison. panasonic, delta, YS tech, NMB, and sunon fans in the 100 CFM range all generate roughly 41 - 44 db of noise. this mad dog claiming 32 db, which is one tenth the noise of the competitors, makes me very suspicious. it tells me that one of the numbers is inaccurate, and since people are saying that it is quiet, i assume that it is the CFM rating that is off.

yes, there is going to be some competition between different companies, and some will be quieter than others. when one is listing one tenth the noise of everyone else, for a given size of fan, and given volume of air moved...............you know?

in case it is causing you some confusion, though, the "or whoever makes it" comment was because you did not seem to be certain that the mad dog was a re-branded yate loon, but that you only thought that it was.
